The final Pathology Grand Rounds presentation was given by Dr. Joseph Saady, Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology and Forensic Toxicologist Manager with the Virginia Department of Forensic Science. The final Research in Progress presentation for Fall 2005 was given this week by Sherryline Jogie-Brahim, PhD, on the topic, "The Role of IGFBP-3 in human disease". Dr. Jogie-Brahim is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Oncogenomics and Proteomics Research Program which is under the direction of Dr. Youngman Oh.

Virginia Commonwealth University recently held its 2005 Founder's Day Alumni Stars awards dinner at the Science Museum of Virginia. Among the 14 honored guests, the sole award for Humanitarian Achievement went to a Professor in the Department of Pathology: Colleen K. Jackson-Cook, PhD.

The Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship has been fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This recent accreditation is due to the dedication of Carleton T. Garrett, MD, PhD, Chair of the Division of Molecular Diagnostics, Andrea Ferreira-Gonzalez, PhD, Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, and the entire Molecular Diagnostics staff.
Their commendable efforts have created a superior learning environment for residents and fellows. This effort has been duly acknowledged by the ACGME in their giving the fellowship training program a full 5-year accreditation.

Susan D. Roseff, MD, Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine, and Associate Professor of Pathology, has been appointed as the Executive Editor for the "Check Sample" publication of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Dr. Roseff has been the editor of the Transfusion Medicine section for the past 6 years, co-editor for the last two years.

The Hematopathology Fellowship has been fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) effective April 1, 2005. This accreditation is due to the dedication of Dr. Jonathan Ben-Ezra, MD, Director Hematology Laboratory, Dr. Roger Riley, MD, PhD, Director Coagulation Laboratory, Manager Jean Willoughby, MT(ASCP) and the entire Hematology staff. Their commendable efforts have created a superior learning environment for residents and fellows. This effort has been duly acknowledged by the ACGME in their giving the fellowship training program a full 5-year accreditation.
The annual Department of Pathology Graduation Banquet took place on June 9, 2005. This year's banquet honored departing faculty, residents, fellows and doctoral candidates. Five distinguished awards were also presented during the banquet.
