CHAPTER TWO

          1-Oligodendroglia make myelin; astrocytes react to injury of brain and have many functions--see text; 2-Astrocytes do not secrete scar-like material. The "scar" consists of masses of astrocytic processes; 3-Cytoplasm becomes eosinophilic and the astrocytes  undergo hypertrophy and hyperplasia; 4--intermediate filaments; 5-Glial fibrillary acidic protein; 6-mesenchymal cells--the histiocytes of the brain. Come from bone marrow during fetal development; 7-present antigen, release cytokines , proliferate in response to injury, rarely become phagocytes.
