Slides 45000-52430 A & B | Slide 1-4

Monckeberg's Medial Calcific Sclerosis (45000-52430)
Note the foci of calcification in the media. In advanced cases of Monckeberg's medial calcific sclerosis, vessels may become rigid and lose their distensibility. In its pure form, this process does not lead to lumenal narrowing, and the ischemic and embolic phenomena of atherosclerosis are not observed. However, in some cases there is superimposed atherosclerosis with intimal plaques or fibrosis.
