Another example of this form of arteriosclerosis is illustrated here. Again, note that the calcification affects only the media. The intima is not thickened by plaques, and the vessel lumen is widely patent. Cases of medial calcific sclerosis are often asymptomatic. However, it may co-exist with atherosclerosis.
