2-8 Bacterial Endocarditis
Note the large, friable vegetation on the mitral valve. Since the valve otherwise appears normal, it is likely that this represents acute endocarditis. This may have resulted from bacteremic exposure to a virulent organism, or infection in an immunocompromised individual.

Vegetation: Low Power (32-43000)
This is a low power view of endocardium and myocardium, showing a fibrin vegetation on the endocardial surface. Note that the endocardium appears edematous and inflamed.
