2-10 Ventricular Septal Defect
This view of the left ventricular septum shows a small defect in the membranous portion of the septum, a common site for this form of congenital abnormality. A defect of this size would be expected to produce a murmur because of the abnormal flow across the defect.

2-11 Coarctation of Aorta
This view of the opened aorta with left carotid and subclavian arteries shows thickening of the aortic intima with a constriction just distal to the subclavian artery. The aortic intima distal to the constriction appears more normal, although the lumen appears dilated. |
