3-1 Atherosclerotic Plaque with Intraplaque Hemorrhage
In a large vessel, such as the aorta, or an iliac artery, intraplaque hemorrhage can disrupt and fragment the plaque (so-called "ulceration" of the plaque). In a coronary artery this complication may lead to an increase in plaque dimension and potentially cause abrupt reduction of the vessel lumen. |
