Endocardial Fibroelastosis (34000-52300)
A special stain for elastic tissue in a tangential section of endocardium from a similar case shows the thickened elastic layers characteristic of this congenital heart disease. This process may affect one or more of the cardiac chambers, but usually the left ventricle. It may occur as an isolated lesion producing restrictive cardiomyopathy, but is also commonly a component of the hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
