Pericarditis (31000-43000)
The pericardial surface is covered by a pink-staining, shaggy, fibrinous exudate. The corresponding gross appearance has been likened to "bread and butter".

Pericarditis (31000-43000)
There is early organization of the fibrinous exudate by granulation tissue. Ultimately, there may be healing by fibrosis, leading to focal or diffuse adhesions between the visceral and parietal pericardium. Rarely, extensive fibrosis can interfere with cardiac function (adhesive or constrictive pericarditis). |
