Lab 1a Slides 21.1 & 21.2--Cerebral Infarct (recent, approx. 10 days)

The section shows one or more infarcts. The infarcted area has become necrotic and macrophages have entered to remove the debris. These areas display sheets of foamy cells--the macrophages--replacing the normal brain. The margins of these areas may still display spongiform change.
