(47) Basal cell carcinoma (BCC): is a form of skin cancer that is common and slow growing. It arises in individuals who are exposed to sun for long periods of time. Also, lightly pigmented people are more prone to basal cell carcinomas. Grossly, the tumor begins as pearly papules with rolled margins (top photo), but can ulcerate and locally invade underlying structures and bone (bottom photo). Hence, the name "rodent ulcer."
