(20) Sickle cell disease: Peripheral blood smear showing sickle cells admixed with target red blood cells. The sickle cells are narrow, darkly curved cells with pointed ends while the target cells appear as cells with bulls eye (central condensation). Both cell types can be seen in patients with sickle cell anemia.
