Gross specimen of a cortical adenoma of the adrenal (bright yellow glistening nodule attached to normal adrenal gland below). The bright yellow color is due to the lipid content of the tumor cells. An adrenal cortical adenoma can be functional or nonfunctional. This distinction is based on clinical and laboratory evaluation, not on morphology.
