Slides 2.9 & 2.10 | Slide 2.11
Slide 2.9
Bivalved left thyroid lobe containing a 3.5 cm well-circumscribed, solid, pink, solitary nodule in a 22 year old female. The nodule is surrounded by a thin rim of normal thyroid. There is central hemorrhage (probably due to the previous FNA this patient had).

Slide 2.10
Low power view of adenoma (left) compressing normal thyroid (right). The nodule is well-demarcated from the normal thyroid parenchyma by a thin fibrous capsule. Extensive sampling of the capsule to look for capsular and vascular invasion is necessary to exclude a follicular carcinoma.
