Arthritis 1

Case History Normal Diarthrosis Slide 1: A hatchet accidentally fell on the left hand of a healthy 26- year-old man and severed four of the fingers. There was no past history of rheumatoid or other articular disease.

Case History Normal Diarthrosis Slide 2: Same as that for Slide 1.

Case History Normal Synovial Membrane Slide 3: A 63-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus of 12 years duration required a low thigh amputation for gangrene of the left foot. The left knee joint was dissected and no gross abnormalities were found. Aspiration produced 0.5 cc of clear, viscous, synovial fluid which contained 150 white blood cells and 1,600 red blood cells per ml. Such synovial findings are within normal limits.
