This week's Grand Rounds presentation was given by Dr. Jeffrey A. Green, MD, Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Green's presentation, "Blood Reduction: Why Transfuse?," accomplished the following educational objectives:

  • Discuss the history of blood transfusion and the risks and benefits of transfusion
  • Discuss blood reduction techniques
  • Describe the impact of blood reduction strategies
