GRAND ROUNDS PRESENTATION

"Chemical Biological Defense Program of the Department of Defense"

This week's Grand Rounds presentation was given by Joseph Saady, PhD. Dr. Saddy is the Toxicologist Manager for the Virginia Department of Forensic Science and Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology.

As a Reservist, a Colonel in the Medical Service Corp, he was mobilized to active duty at the Pentagon where he worked in the Department of Defense Chemical Biological Defense Program.

The following issues were presented to faculty, residents and staff:

  • Overview of the US Chemical Biological Defense Program (CBDP)
  • Emphasis on the “medical components” of the CBDP
  • Review of the program funding
  • Examination of pertinent medical issues and shortfalls
  • Involvement of government, academia and industry in CBDP research
