GRAND ROUNDS PRESENTATION

"Transfusion Medicine: Today and Tomorrow "

The first Grand Rounds presentation for Fall 2005 was given by Kathleen Sazama, MD, JD. Dr. Sazama is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.

Her topic, "Transfusion Medicine: Today and Tomorrow," is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • Describe the current status of blood safety and availability in the US and globally.
  • Identify and enumerate the forces external to transfusion medicine that will dramatically impact the safety and availability of blood for transfusion in the US over the next several decades.
  • Forecast future possible innovations that may dramatically affect the field of transfusion medicine.
