"Genetic Models for Human Disease: A Focus on Drosophila"

Michael S. Grotewiel, PhD, an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Genetics, VCU, presented this week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Grotewiel's topic, "Genetic Models for Human Disease: A Focus on Drosophila," is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • To provide an enhanced appreciation for utility of genetic animal models for investigating human disease mechanisms.
  • To gain improved understanding of advantages of using Drosophila as a model for human disease.
  • To yield an enhanced understanding of genetic basis for age-related locomotor declines
