GRAND ROUNDS PRESENTATION

"Complications of Blood Donation and Transfusion:
The Hemovigilance Program of the American Red Cross"

Anne Eder, MD, PhD, Executive Medical Officer, American Red Cross National Headquarters, Washington, DC, presented this week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Eder's topic, "Complications of Blood Donation and Transfusion: the Hemovigilance Program of the American Red Cross," is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • Describe the Red Cross hemovigilance program for monitoring complications of blood donation and transfusion.
  • Understand the Red Cross data on donor complications and transfusion reactions, including TRALI and bacterial sepsis.
  • Discuss how hemovigilance data has been used to inform decisions at a large blood center.
