"Ancient Pregnancy in Peruvian Mummies" by Karen Cline-Parhamovich, DO

"Serologic Diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis"

Toby Gray and Karen Cline-Parhamovich, Pathology residents at VCU, presented this week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Gray presented, "Serologic Diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis" covering the following educational objectives:

  • Understand the role of serology in diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Understand rheumatoid factor and its strengths and limitations in diagnostic testing.
  • Learn about the development and use of anti-CCP in evaluation of rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr. Cline-Parhamovich presented her research on "Ancient Pregnancy in Peruvian Mummies" which provided audience members with information regarding:

  • The purpose and background of doing immunohistochemistry on mummy tissue.
  • A review of the physiology of lactation.
  • An improved understanding of the relationship between lactation and hormone receptors in the breast.
