"The Case of the Mysterious Buccal Mass" by Patrick McDonough, MD

Patrick McDonough and Marielis Triana, Pathology residents at VCU, presented this week's Grand Rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Triana presented "Ectopia Cordis" which provided audience members with information regarding how to:

  • Identify different types of Ectopia Cordis according to anatomic position to the heart.
  • Identify structural and chromosomal abnormalities related to Ectopia Cordis.
  • Identify pentalogy of Cantrell.

Dr. McDonough presented, "The Case of the Mysterious Buccal Mass" covering the following educational objectives:

  • Identify role of fine needle aspiration in superficial mucinose masses.
  • Discuss the possibilities of neoadjuvent chemotherapy in recurrent lesions.
  • Describe the differential diagnoses of mucinose carcinomas.
