GRAND ROUNDS PRESENTATION

James Fulcher, MD, and Regina Burton, MD, both residents in the Department of Pathology, presented this week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Regina Burton, also Chief Resident for 2006-2007, spoke on the topic, "Parvovirus B19," which is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • Review histologic features commonly seen in the bone marrow.
  • Describe the pathogenesis associated with the infection.
  • Provide information on B19 vaccine development.

Dr. James Fulcher, 3rd year resident, presented, "Granulocytic Sarcoma," addressing these educational objectives:

  • Understand the unique and critical immunohistochemical staining characteristics of granulocytic sarcoma.
  • Realize the important relationship of granulocytic sarcoma and AML.
  • Develop an understanding of the many clinical presentations of granulocytic sarcoma with a comparison of two interesting cases.
