GRAND ROUNDS PRESENTATION

"Cystic fibrosis: A paradigm for molecular based screening methods" by

"Soft Tissue Cytopathology at VCU" by Dan Klink, MD

Ranjitha Veerappan, MBBS, and Dan Klink, MD, both fellows in the Department of Pathology, presented last week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Veerappan's topic, "Cystic fibrosis: A paradigm for molecular based screening methods," is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • Understand the pathophysiology of CFTR mutations.
  • Understand the reason for offering prenatal screening and issues related to reporting.
  • Understand issues related to choosing number of mutations to be included in a screening panel for cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Klink's topic, "Soft Tissue Cytopathology at VCU," accentuated these educational objectives:

  • Review the soft tissue cytopathology experience at VCU.
  • Discuss an algorithm for diagnosis of soft tissue cytopathology cases.
