Two third-year residents at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, recently presented the Pathology grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.
Dr. Buckler's topic, "Outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium DT104 Gastroenteritis Related to a Holiday Banquet," is highlighted in the following educational objectives:
- Understand the approach to working up a food borne outbreak.
- Describe the methods used to identify Salmonella species in the laboratory.
- Explain the importance of pulsed field gel electropheresis and PulseNet in finding related cases of disease.

Dr. Rahman delievered a presentation entitled, "Gastrointestinal Histoplasmosis," which provided audience members with information intended to:
- Review various clinical manifestations of gastrointestinal histoplasmosis.
- Appreciate the role of cytologic, histologic, and microbiologic techniques for detection of Histoplasma capsulatum in clinical specimens.
