Two fourth-year residents at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, recently presented the Pathology grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents, students and staff.
Dr. McDonough's topic, "Gene Expression in Malignant Melanoma," is highlighted in the following educational objectives:
- Describe what gene expression microarrays are and why we use them.
- Discuss whether or not RNA can be isolated from formalin fixed paraffin.
Dr. Fulcher presented, "Drowning in Virginia," and his lecture is highlighted in the following educational objectives:
- Understand recent statistical data concerning drowning in the Commonwealth.
- Understand the difficulties of autopsy diagnosis of drowning.
- Become familiar with the theory and problems with diatom preparations in the diagnosis of drowning.
