GRAND ROUNDS PRESENTATION

"New and Uncommon Entities of Salivary Gland Tumors"
March 20, 2009

M. Sherif Said, MD, PhD, Associate Professor and Director of Head & Neck Pathology, University of Colorado at Denver, presented this week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Said's topic, "New and Uncommon Entities of Salivary Gland Tumors" is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • Identify rare entities of salivary gland entities.

  • Be familiar with some of the new salivary gland lesions better characterized recently.

Abstract:

Salivary gland tumors are a prolific group of tumors. In addition to the more commonly known types, there are many obscure and less encountered entities that are seldom seen by the practicing pathologists and their recognition is essential particularly when considering the differential diagnosis of the well known salivary gland tumor types. These include; oncocytic derived lesions, myoepithelial derived lesions, salivary duct derived entities, rare types of adenocarcinoma, rare derivatives and variations of the common entities and rare types of adenomas and sclerosing lesions. The purpose of the presentation is to describe some of these entities.
