"Infectious Etiology of Granulomatous Inflammation on Bone Marrow Biopsy"

Saud Rahman, MD, Chief Resident, VCUHS Dept of Pathology, presented this week's grand rounds lecture for faculty, residents and staff.

Dr. Rahman's topic, "Infectious Etiology of Granulomatous Inflammation on Bone Marrow Biopsy" is highlighted in the following educational objectives:

  • Review the indications for bone marrow biopsy for non-hematopoietic diseases.
  • Understand the role of laboratory methods for detection of fungal and mycobacterial microorganisms on bone marrow biopsy.
  • Understand the correlation between histologic identification of granulomatous inflammation on bone marrow biopsy and detection of microorganisms through histochemical stain and microbiological culture.
