Overview of the Tissue & Data Acquisition & Analysis Core

  • TDAAC was initially established from a grant awarded to VCU in 2001 by the Virginia Commonwealth Technology Research Fund (CTRF). It represents a close collaboration within and between multiple disciplines and departments within VCUHS including the Massey Cancer Center and Departments of Pathology, Surgery, and Internal Medicine.
  • Collect human residual tumor and hematopoietic samples for IRB approved studies
    • Can include additional collection requirements specified by an IRB approved protocol
    • Coordinate specimen acquisition and handling with requirements for histopathological review for patient care
    • Assure rapid collection and handling of tissue to maximize RNA integrity
  • Patients are consented prior to the use of their tissue in any TDAAC related study
  • Collect primary data on new cancer patients including patient history surveys
  • Process hematopoietic samples, including bone marrow aspirates and peripheral blood samples, separating  plasma and cryopreserving mononuclear cells
